Founded in 1953, the Los Angeles Geographical Society is a non-profit educational corporation dedicated to the advancement of Geography in the Los Angeles area and in Southern California. The society's main activities include:
Scholarships: Each year, the society offers several Dr. David F. Public Lectures: Free public lectures on geographical topics are offered once a month from September through May (except for January). Lectures are usually held on the first Friday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at 8:00 PM in Franklin Hall, room 101, at Los Angeles City College, 855 North Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, California. The main exception is the lecture presented at the annual banquet held at a Los Angeles restaurant during the month of December.
Field Trips and Tours: The society conducts guided field trips each year to places of interest in the Southern California area. In addition, the society may sponsor an international tour.
Newsletter: The society newsletter, Southland Geographic Notes, is published 4 to 5 times annually.
