"Implementing Modern Geographic
Technology in the Trucking Industry: A Case Study"
Alma Vargas
Graduate Student
California State University, Long Beach

ABSTRACT:
This paper focuses on an on-going research study of how technology can be
associated with the trucking industry to fulfill the demand for an
effective tracking system specifically, for drivers in a local delivery
sector. As transportation demand continues to grow detailed management and
organization is required to keep ahead of the competition. Today companies
want to know exactly where their drivers are at all times. Interest in
tracking a driver's whereabouts has greatly increased within the industry
as technology makes this possible. The use of Geographic Information
Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) has expanded rapidly
and it is now a form of modern geographic technology that is being
implemented for a variety of studies. The purpose of this paper is to
examine how geographic technology serves to provide valuable information
for comparing actual map-tracks with perceived time space geographies.
