"Changing
Island Time: an assessment of development strategies for South Caicos" Undergraduate Student University of Southern California
Abstract Small island nations are caught between trying to industrialize and develop their economies while having an extremely limited amount of natural resources. The Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) in the British West Indies are an example of such an island chain. This presentation reviews five possibilities for economic development on South Caicos (aquaculture, commercial fishing, all inclusive resorts, cruise ships, ecotourism) and considers the costs and benefits of each with regard to sustainability, social impacts, and economic impacts.
